The charitable Daisies at Dawn collection is one of Sheila's most popular and loved. Since 2014, donations from sales of the collection have helped support many local and national charities and good causes, including Orkney Charitable Trust and Pancreatic Cancer Action Scotland.

After supporting MS Society Orkney in 2022, we are delighted to be continuing to work with this fantastic charity again in 2023. 

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition that causes interference to messages passed between the brain and other parts of the body and affects around 100,000 people in the UK, Orkney having one of the highest rates in the world. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too. It is known to affect roughly three times more women than men.

MS Society Orkney, part of the National MS Society, is run by a small team of volunteers, many of whom have MS or a family member affected by the condition. For some people, MS is characterised by periods of relapse and remission while for others it has a progressive pattern. For everyone affected by MS either as a sufferer or as a relative or carer, it makes life a little unpredictable.

Orkney has the highest rate of MS in the world, according to the last major study, conducted in 2012.  The researchers said that the rate for probable or definite MS was 402 per 100,000 people, up from a previous 309 per 100,000 which was recorded in 1974.

The study found that one in 170 Orcadian women suffer from the condition.

Like many other charities, COVID-19 has had a great impact on how they run and what services they are able to offer. With cancelled events for the members, to the cancellation of crucial plans for ‘income’ raising events, every aspect of the charity has been affected.
