Every detail of the Kirk has had Sheila and her son Martin’s personal attention. Prepare to step into designer heaven as you walk through the original church entrance. The spacious interior combines features of traditional Orkney stone-work with a touch of architectural inspiration from Sheila’s travels.
Look around and you’ll see the original pulpit with its lofty view over the new, purpose-built display cabinets, while soft-coloured light stretches from the stained-glass windows.
Glance upwards and you’ll see the original brass lamps that once lit church services, now shining on Sheila’s silver, gold and platinum designs below.
And the eagle-eyed will spot a carving of Birsay Disc, Sheila's first jewellery design, embedded in the Kirk's original wooden ceiling. This carving, as well as much of the carpentry within The Kirk, was completed by Leo Kerr and his team at Leo Kerr Carpentry in Orkney.
Once you've soaked in the feast of design and detail in the historic Kirk, ‘take a pew’ in the Kirk Café where you'll find a range of mouth-watering dishes, cakes and bakes to choose from. It’s the perfect place to relax as you consider that special purchase.
We are rated as Orkney's top eating establishment on TripAdvisor and have maintained a 5-star Travellers' Choice Award since 2020.
We have full disabled access at the Kirk Gallery & Café, including a lift to our giftware mezzanine. Dogs are welcome in our jewellery area only (not within The Kirk Café), but assistance dogs are welcome throughout the whole building. We also have outdoor tables—weather permitting—where all visitors' dogs are welcome.

From Kirkwall, take the A960 east towards Deerness. After Kirkwall Airport, take the first left into Tankerness and follow the brown Creative Trail signs to The Kirk Gallery & Café.
