On Saturday 5 July 2025, Sheila Fleet opened her luxurious two-storey jewellery shop at 4 Hanover...
From 12-18 July, Orkney hosted the 2025 International Island Games, welcoming over 2,000 competitors from 24 islands across the world. The atmosphere, and the sunshine, were incredible!
Journey to the medals...
In 2023, Creative Orkney and Orkney 2025 launched a competition for the design of the medals and ribbon. Jodie Brown's standing stones medal design was chosen as the winner. The ribbon design was won by Olivia Yorston, whose striking concept represents the flag colours of Orkney and features all official Island Games logos.
Sheila Fleet Jewellery sponsored all 1,272 medals that were presented during the Games 🏅
A lot of consideration was given to making the medals in our Orkney workshop, but ultimately we didn't have the necessary equipment. The hunt was on to find a reputable company to bring Jodie's stunning medal design to life, and Birmingham-based Vaughtons were the perfect choice.
Vaughtons, a family run business for over 200 years, has made medals for iconic events such as the 1908 London Olympics and the FA Cup. In September 2024, Sheila, Jodie and Olivia visited Vaughtons to see the medal making process for themselves. The company did an exceptional job and the resulting medals will be treasured for a lifetime and beyond.

Once the medals were complete, the next step was attaching the ribbons. Fiona Firth, one of the Hand Assembly team at Sheila Fleet Jewellery—and an expert sewer and craftsperson—secured all 1,272 ribbons to the gold, silver and bronze medals. Our fantastic office team then packed each medal in a silk pouch along with a congratulatory card for each medalist.

After a long but exciting process, it's fantastic to finally see the medals being won and worn by competitors—especially when they're a part of #teamorkney!

From medals to jewellery...
To celebrate the landmark occasion for Orkney, Sheila wanted to launch a jewellery collection that would be an appropriate tribute to the Orkney 2025 Island Games. Over the last year, Jodie and Sheila have worked closely together to bring Jodie's medal concept to life as jewellery. This involved Jodie hand-crafting the master patterns and our enamellers developing appropriate enamel colourways.
The result is a stunning representation of Jodie's medal design and a fitting memento of the Orkney 2025 Island Games. The designs are also a perfect addition to Sheila's existing range of Standing Stones jewellery.
Orkney Spirit is available in oxidised sterling silver, in silver with a choice of two enamel colourways—Dew and Blue Grey—and in precious 9ct yellow gold. Discover the collection in-store and online!
