NEW Sheila Fleet Kirkwall Shop Update!
Sep 6, 2024
After two years of working behind-the-scenes on our new Kirkwall Gallery location, we thought it ...
Mums are brilliant, aren’t they?
We know so many of you agree because Mother’s Day has become quite the institution here at Sheila Fleet Jewellery.
Over the past few years, we’ve featured many local mums and their daughters as our Mother’s Day ‘cover girls’!
This year is the turn of Kath and her daughters Tina and Dawn.
Kath works at our Kirkwall jewellery gallery, ensuring our displays look beautiful and helping visitors choose pieces that are right for them:
“It’s easy working at the gallery when you love the jewellery as much as I do! My favourite pieces are from the Standing Stones and Shoreline Pebble collections.
“The pieces are so recognisable. I was on holiday in Australia and a lady approached me to ask me whether my necklace was from Sheila Fleet Jewellery. I couldn’t believe it!
“The following year the lady came to visit Orkney and popped into the Kirkwall gallery as well. We now keep in touch via email which is lovely.”
Wherever possible, we always try and pick local Orkney girls to showcase our jewellery. Mother’s Day is no exception. Kath and her daughters were delighted:
“We were honoured to take part. At the end of the photo shoot Sheila said she wanted to gift us a piece of jewellery each. Tina and Dawn adore Sheila’s work and have so many pieces; it was a little tricky finding something that wasn’t in their collections already!
“In the end, Dawn was gifted a pair of snowdrop earrings to match her necklace. Tina is getting married and will be wearing her gift on the day – she doesn’t want to reveal what it is just yet! The piece is very unique; gold with silver enamelling.”
With Sunday the 30th fast approaching, we wish all the mums a relaxing day spent doing what they love best. In Kath’s case she’ll be having lunch with the family:
“My family are very important to me so Mother’s Day is a fantastic chance to get everyone together for Sunday lunch. We’re all very close – we even have a family band called The Kirkjuvagr Ceilidh Band – it’s lovely spending so much time together.”
