NEW Sheila Fleet Kirkwall Shop Update!
Sep 6, 2024
After two years of working behind-the-scenes on our new Kirkwall Gallery location, we thought it ...
This Sunday is Father’s Day in the UK. We’ll be celebrating, or remembering, Dads all over Britain, and indeed in many other countries in the world this weekend.
Sheila and Martin have been remembering their Dads…
The image above from 1959 shows Sheila as a young teenager with her father, James Dearness. At this time Sheila was working with her father on the family farm before she left for Edinburgh College of Art to study jewellery design and fashion. Sheila attributes much of her energy, drive and attention to detail to her dad. When she thinks of putting off a task for later she remembers him saying:
‘You’ll never have more time than you do today.’
‘Something we used to do every Spring together’ Martin said as he handed me this photo. It shows him planting onions with his father, Rick, in the early 1980s.
Martin with his son, Hamish, after a strenuous bike ride to the top of the hill on Burray. Hamish loves being outdoors, swimming and cycling, it keeps Dad fit too!
Everyone will celebrate Father’s Day in their own way. Perhaps you’re planning to cook Dad his favourite food or invite him to a concert or film. Maybe he has a soft spot for fine craftsmanship? In this case he might like a piece of carefully crafted jewellery, designed and made in our Orkney Workshop. Have you seen our selection of Cufflinks?
Sheila has also been creating some new Kilt Pins
Our jewellery will stand the test of time, enduring for years to be passed down and enjoyed by generations to come. Indeed it’s a lovely way to thank Dad for all his hard work, love and care. If you’d like to see some of the pieces we’ve gathered together for this special occasion take at look at our Father’s Day page.
Wishing you all a special day from Orkney and love to all Dads!
