This Viking Chape in solid sterling silver is a blend of intricate geometric shapes and three small flower designs, all highlighted in oxidised silver. The design is approximately 49mm x 50mm.
Sheila based these designs on chapes that form part of the St Ninian's Isle Treasure, a hoard of 28 silver and silver-gilt decorated objects, of mainly Pictish origin. The treasure was discovered under a slab marked with a cross in the floor of a church on St Ninian’s Isle in Shetland in 1958. The silver bowls, jewellery and other pieces are believed to date from approximately 800 AD.
