This Viking Chape in solid sterling silver is a blend of intricate geometric shapes and three small flower designs, all highlighted in oxidised silver. The design is approximately 48mm by 46mm.
Sheila based these designs on chapes that form part of the St Ninian's Isle Treasure, a hoard of 28 silver and silver-gilt decorated objects, of mainly Pictish origin. The treasure was discovered under a slab marked with a cross in the floor of a church on St Ninian’s Isle in Shetland in 1958. The silver bowls, jewellery and other pieces are believed to date from approximately 800 AD.
