This Stone Circles necklace in sterling silver features a hand-enamelled standing stones design, hand-finished in our Orkney workshop. The pendant design elegantly hangs from a sterling silver curb chain.
Inspired by the setting sun encircling the stones of the Ring of Brodgar, an ancient monument in the heart of Neolithic Orkney, built over 4,500 years ago. Was this iconic circle a religious shrine or was it built for astronomical observations of the solstice and equinox? Sheila’s own romantic notion is that the great stone circle was a form of clock or calendar to mark times and seasons important to the Neolithic people.
Stone Circles is a complementary collection to Sheila’s Standing Stones collection, inspired by the Standing Stones of Stenness, another of Orkney’s ancient marvels.
