This sterling silver Stone Circles necklace features a hand-enamelled stones design, hand-finished in our Orkney workshop. The design hangs elegantly from a sterling silver neckwire.
Inspired by the setting sun encircling the stones of the Ring of Brodgar, an ancient monument in the heart of Neolithic Orkney, built over 4,500 years ago. Was this iconic circle a religious shrine or was it built for astronomical observations of the solstice and equinox? Sheila’s own romantic notion is that the great stone circle was a form of clock or calendar to mark times and seasons important to the Neolithic people.
Stone Circles is a complementary collection to Sheila’s Standing Stones collection, inspired by the Standing Stones of Stenness, another of Orkney’s ancient marvels.
