Aegir raises £11,000!

Yesterday evening, on September 10th, Aegir went on auction in Aberdeen along with all his friends. Between them the 50 dolphins have raised over half a million pounds for charity.

This is fantastic news for The Archie Foundation and Whale & Dolphin Conservation. The two charities will split a sum of £531,000.

The Dolphins were all sponsored by different companies who supported their artistic decoration.

Our dolphin, Aegir, was sponsored by Serco NorthLink Ferries, intricately illustrated by our graphic designer, Gina Ramsay and bejewelled by Sheila.  Here is the story of Aegir…

Emily is an ambassador for the Archie Foundation. Despite her own health issues Emily devotes a lot of time to helping others. She is involved in raising awareness of the work the Archie Foundation does in supporting families with children affected by cancer.

“We’re really delighted that Aegir managed to raise so much. We hope it will benefit Emily and others like her.” commented Sheila

“I’ve enjoyed the entire experience and couldn’t think of two more deserving charities to benefit from Aegir. I can see something similar working for Orkney!” added Gina

The exhibition of the dolphins was incredibly popular with thousands of people following the Dolphin Trail throughout the city. 18,000 people alone visited all the Dolphins when they were together for the last time at Marischal College before being auctioned.

One Dolphin: the Golfin Dolphin decorated with a golfing theme and signed by Scottish Open golfers, sold for £55,000!
