This Mine Howe pendant necklace in classic 9ct yellow gold features Sheila’s design hanging from a long gold bar, which in turn hangs from a gold chain. The centre of the design is enhanced with a sparkling 2mm diamond, set by hand in our workshop in Orkney. The circular design measures approximately 8mm in diameter, and has an overall drop of 40mm including the gold bar.
This collection was inspired by a small button with a cross-like design, discovered at the prehistoric site known as Mine Howe, in Tankerness, a few miles from Sheila’s Orkney home and workshop. Mine Howe is a man-made chamber, dug deep inside a large mound, with 29 steps leading to a rock floor. Although the origin of the howe is not known, it’s believed to have been built 2,000 years ago.
