This Mine Howe necklace in classic 9ct yellow gold features Sheila’s design hanging from a long gold bar, which in turn hangs from a gold wire. The Mine Howe design measures approximately 8mm in diameter and is enhanced with a sparkling 2mm diamond, set by hand in our workshop in Orkney. The overall drop from the wire is approximately 40mm.
This collection was inspired by a small button with a cross-like design, discovered at the prehistoric site known as Mine Howe, in Tankerness, a few miles from Sheila’s Orkney home and workshop. Mine Howe is a man-made chamber, dug deep inside a large mound, with 29 steps leading to a rock floor. Although the origin of the howe is not known, it’s believed to have been built 2,000 years ago.
