This Mine Howe pendant necklace in sterling silver features Sheila’s design hanging from a long silver bar, which in turn hangs from a sterling silver curb chain. The centre of the design is enhanced with a 2mm cubic zirconia. The pendant is hand-enamelled in our workshop in Orkney.
This collection was inspired by a small button with a cross-like design, discovered at the prehistoric site known as Mine Howe, in Tankerness, a few miles from Sheila’s Orkney home and workshop. Mine Howe is a man-made chamber, dug deep inside a large mound, with 29 steps leading to a rock floor. Although the origin of the howe is not known, it’s believed to have been built 2,000 years ago.
