These Cross of the Kirk drop earrings in sterling silver are hand-enamelled in our Orkney workshop in 'Cool Slate' enamel. Each cross design is approximately 10mm by 15mm and hangs from a long, solid silver bar, giving an overall length of approximately 38mm.
A collection inspired by a wooden carving found in the former St Andrews Parish Church in Tankerness, Orkney. The carving may have been made in the early 18th century, when the church was built, or may be much older. Sheila has reinterpreted the cross in sterling silver and enamel, with some designs including a blue topaz gemstone.
The Cross of the Kirk collection celebrates the re-opening of the old parish church, now beautifully renovated by Sheila Fleet Jewellery and known as The Kirk Gallery & Café, a stunning exhibition space for Sheila’s distinctive designs and a showcase for local Orkney food.
