About the collection
Sheila grew up on a farm in Orkney, where the rich colours and traditions of harvest time were a special part of life. These memories inspired Sheila to create a jewellery collection celebrating the beauty and heritage of the harvest season, drawing on the golden hues of ripening crops.
For more than 5,000 years, barley has been part of Orkney’s story. Archaeological evidence from Skara Brae shows that its Neolithic community cultivated barley in the sandy soils surrounding their settlement.
Today, Orkney’s ancient bere barley continues this long agricultural tradition. Barony Mill is Orkney’s last working watermill and the only place in the world still producing flour from bere, a traditional variety of barley that has been grown in Orkney for generations.
