A hallmark is your guarantee of quality and can only be applied by an independent Assay Office. All our gold over 1 gram, palladium and platinum pieces over 0.5 grams, and silver pieces over 7.78 grams are hallmarked in accordance with the UK Hallmarking Act 1973. All such pieces are independently quality tested for fineness by the Edinburgh Assay Office and given a hallmark.

A hallmark consists of three symbols: the maker’s mark, the metal fineness mark and the Assay Office Mark. In our case the maker’s mark is SD from Sheila’s maiden name: Sheila Dearness. The metal fineness mark always indicates the type of metal and its purity and finally the Assay Office mark indicates where the hallmark has been applied. Our jewellery and rings are hallmarked by the Edinburgh Assay Office. For more information on hallmarks see the Edinburgh Assay Office’s Guide to Hallmarking and our Guide to Metals.
